Antioch Farm Apprentice

Position Summary:

Apprentices gain in-depth experience and hands-on skills related to running a small scale, ecologically focused farming operation.  Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to manage an educational or commercial small farm, engage the public during educational events, and effectively organize and train staff and volunteers.

This position is a seasonal short-term position.  It will run from June 10 to October 11, 2018, but alternative dates will be considered for this position. Note that 1 week of unpaid vacation time is allotted in addition to the 17 paid weeks, upon approval of the farm manager. Vacation time is expected to occur during school terms and at a time when other staff vacations are not scheduled. 

Participants are paid $10 per hour and work 35 hours during weekdays. Five workshops or field trips are also available for apprentices, topics depending on their interest. They may include on site topics such as food forest care & design, holistic poultry & sheep care, food preservation, non-profit fiscal management, medicinal plants, and more. Field trips may include a local food bank, local farms or nature centers.  Apprentices select from a menu of options during the first week’s orientation. 

Some produce from the farm will also be available each week for staff. Housing is not provided.    There are no benefits associated with this position.  


  • Contribute to the daily operations of the farm including but not limited to planting, composting, mulching, weeding, pest management, and harvest
  • Organize, train and work with student staff
  • Participate as a farm representative in meetings, tours, and educational events


Apprentices should have farming experience, proven reliability and good work ethic, good people skills and a positive attitude. Apprentices must have the ability to move at a fast pace during work hours, problem solve and transition smoothly from one task to the next. They also must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.

Open to: Non-students.  Priority given to Antioch graduates.
