Business Manager

Position Summary:

Manages overall business operations of the station, WYSO Public Radio, performs station financial and accounting functions, manages and operates station’s membership software system, advises General Manager and Development Director of financial issues, prepares annual budget and long-term, special project budgets, prepares and presents monthly variance analysis, works closely with Antioch College finance office and with other college departments as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Banking & Accounting
Processes all Underwriting revenue (runs credit cards, logs checks, creates invoices, initiates billing).
Creates Deposit Journal for all revenue.
Delivers all checks and cash to Antioch Finance for deposit.
Prepares payables for approval and submits to Antioch Finance.
Creates and Tracks budget.
Delivers financial updates to WYSO Business Team and WYSO Resource Board.
Books underwriting payments.
Consults with Membership Coordinator to reconcile and track membership revenue, assists with payment processing.
Allocates monthly Credit Card charges for approval.
Reports Monthly Trade and Open Contract (underwriting) numbers to Antioch Finance.
Submits tax exempt certificates to vendors. Acquires w9s from all vendors.
Manages petty cash.
Tracks Deferred Revenue.
Assists Antioch Finance in Audits.
HR & Payroll
Collects and prepares time sheets for approval.
Calculates commission reports for approval, submits to Antioch Finance.
Processes reimbursement requests.
Grants and Government Compliance
Coordinates with WYSO Development Director to apply for grants and assists other Antioch Assets and Department with Grants.
Tracks Grant Revenue through project codes.
Prepares final reports.
Submits financial reporting for annual CPB Community Service Grant compliance (SAS, EEO, CSG-AFR, 1099).
Submits financial reporting for OMBEC state funds.
Applies for Combined Federal Campaign enrollment.
Coordinates with Station Manager and Attorney to maintain public file compliance.
Provides survey data for Greater Public benchmarks.
Other Business Activities
Creates fundraiser events with Business Team and Antioch Assets: produces budgets and assists in securing sponsorships.
Drafts contracts and agreements with project producers, editors, and trainers.
Regularly compares prices from vendors and potential vendors.
Monitors industry best practices, trends, and requirements.
Acts as liaison between WYSO and legal, engineering, maintenance, and insurance personnel.
Monitors domain registration and software licenses. Assists Operations Deputy with renewals and tech compliance.
Develops capital projects.
Answers all financial related inquiries from the Public.
Assists Antioch College Advancement and other Assets in executing fundraising events.
Assists Antioch College in consolidating vendor usage and purchase agreements.
Staff Supervision as Assigned by GM.
Manages subscription and contract renewals. Renegotiates all contracts, subscriptions, and agreements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Traffic and membership manager as assigned

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S. or equivalent) required and two years of related experience and/or training highly desirable; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to write reports and correspondence; read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals.  Ability to read and interprets documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Must have strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  

Computer Skills

Experience with programs in word processing, spreadsheets and emails are required. “Allegiance” software knowledge preferred.

Other Skills & Abilities

Strong office and customer service skills are required.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Must have good communication and interpersonal skills. 
Must be able to work effectively in a fast paced environment and be able to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects. 
Must be a self-starter and be able to both function as a member of a team and to work independently, at times with little to no direct supervision. 
Must be able to keep information confidential. 
Must be able to be as work as scheduled.

Certificates, Licenses

A valid driver’s license is required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear.   The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, and reach with hands and arms.  The individual must regularly lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The staff member is exposed to year-around outside weather conditions when walking on the campus and to/from appointments with various constituents.
