Maintenance Technician

Position Summary Description:

The maintenance technician is tasked with the upkeep of buildings and grounds, as well as upkeep of equipment needed to operate and maintain campus facilities.
 

Essential Functions (Responsibilities) of the Position:

Perform various types of maintenance with varying degrees of difficulty on all buildings, including, but not limited to: masonry, carpentry, flooring, plumbing, electrical and HVAC.

Perform preventative maintenance on building and grounds equipment as directed.

Assist with regular inspections of facilities.

Maintain clean, well-organized tools, equipment and supply room making sure replacement parts and supplies are at adequate levels.

Grounds maintenance, including but not limited to mowing, weed cutting, landscaping improvements and snow and leaf removal.

Follow all OSHA safety practices and procedures.  Assist Facilities Manager with safety program initiatives and perform regular safety inspections of all campus grounds and buildings.

Maintain equipment in proper operating condition.

Other duties as required.

Non-Essential Functions:

Ability to operate machinery and equipment, including grounds equipment, power tools, drain cleaning equipment as well as pickup truck and snow blade (valid driver’s license necessary).

Ability to work in a college environment where staff, students, parents and alumni are regularly present.

Strong interpersonal skills and desire to provide a high level of service to all stakeholders.

Ability to work side-by-side with student workers, volunteers and friends of the college.

Able to work evenings and weekends when necessary.

Basic computer skills and the ability to read blueprints and schematics.

Demonstrated ability of respect for individuals and community.

Demonstrate integrity and commitment to learning.

Demonstrated value for community and diversity.

Qualifications: 

High school diploma or GED.

3 years of experience working as a maintenance tech in a similar environment.

Possession of current Ohio State driver’s license.

Required Skills/Physical Abilities:

Ability to stand or walk frequently.

Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Climb up onto and down from equipment or ladders.

Able to manipulate small hand tools.

Environmental Considerations:

May occasionally work in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.

Will climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces on an occasional basis.

May occasionally walk on slippery surfaces.

Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
