Assistant Professor of Media Arts

Kelly Gallagher is an experimental animator, filmmaker and Assistant Professor of Media Arts at Antioch College in Ohio. Her theoretical and scholarly work investigates the radical and feminist possibilities of experimental animation. Her animations, experimental films and documentaries have screened internationally at venues including: Ann Arbor Film Festival, Sheffield Doc/Fest, London ICA Artists’ Biennial, LA Film Forum, Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival, and NYC's Anthology Film Archives. She is the recipient of the Ivan Kaljević Award from Alternative Film/Video Festival Belgrade, the Helen Hill Award from Indie Grits, the Audience Award from Brazil's Fronteira Film Festival, and the Jury's Choice Award from Black Maria Film Festival. Her most recent film, More Dangerous Than a Thousand Rioters, explores the life of revolutionary labor organizer Lucy Parsons and premiered worldwide on The Nation. Kelly also creates original commissioned animated content for documentary film and music video clients ranging from PBS to The Coup. In addition to personal and commissioned film and animation work, Kelly has been organizing and facilitating animation workshops for children, teens, and other communities for the past several years. Recent highlights have included: a direct animation workshop for toddlers in Cincinnati, OH; a cut-out animation workshop for high schoolers in Columbia, SC; and co-facilitating a film and animation camp for girls, trans, and non-binary youth in Asheville, NC.
