Voting Open Among Antioch Community for Winning Victories Grant

Antioch College Offering Grant Funding Opportunities to Alumni Who Carry on Founder’s Plea to “Win Some Victory For Humanity”

Yellow Springs, OH (June 12, 2018) – Antioch College announces that voting has opened for the Winning Victories Grant, a new opportunity for College alumni who, through business, entrepreneurial, or non-profit ventures, have developed initiatives that accelerate the development and deepen the impact of public good and social justice in local, national and international communities.

A selection committee composed of members of the Antioch College Alumni Association Board of Directors and student, staff, and faculty representatives reviewed nearly 60 applications and have chosen five semi-finalists to be reviewed and voted on by the Antioch College Community. Winners of the community vote will be announced in July at Antioch College’s Reunion 2018 with funds being distributed early August, 2018.

The Grant offers three cash awards – one for $50,000, and two for $10,000 each and all Antioch College Alumni were invited to submit an application. All applications were evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Clearly identifies the need for the project and the community it will benefit, describes what activities the project will undertake, and defines the project’s purpose and impact on humanity;

  • An achievable project objective and timeline;

  • Sustainable approach to the project and future endeavors that aligns with Antioch’s mission;

  • Reflects and represents Antioch College in positive, meaningful, and thoughtful ways.

Antioch graduate Matt Morgan (class of 1999) envisioned and helped make possible the Winning Victories Grant, which was inspired by Antioch College founder Horace Mann’s plea to Antioch graduates in 1859 to “Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.”
