David "Wigs" Elwood Wilbur ‘70

David "Wigs" Elwood Wilbur, age 69, of South Portland, ME< formerly of West Virginia and recently of Stroudwater Lodge, Westbrook, ended his physical journey at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, on Feb. 14, 2018.

David was born in Port Jervis, N.Y. on May 18, 1948, to Charlotte and Carl Wilbur. David attended Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville, N.Y., graduating with the class of 1966 as their salutatorian. He graduated in 1970 from Antioch College with a B.A. in Philosophy.

During the Vietnam war, David served as an orderly at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Mass.

David was a humanist, whose internal calling inspired community wherever he was. His talents led him to careers as an educator, nursing home director, and sports photojournalist for local newspapers in Charlotte, N.C., Moorfield and Beckley, W.Va.

He was a leader within his church family, committed to public service as a proud member of the Lion's Club and local Rotary Chapters and shared his passions with those who were privileged to know him. David was predeceased by his father, Carl Wilbur; and brother, Steven. He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Rice Wilbur; brother, Thomas Allen Wilbur and his wife, Dianne Marie Wilbur; nephews, Allen Thomas Wilbur and Carl Richard Langley; nieces, Adrienne-Marie Wilson and Eliza Ruth Watson; grand-nieces, Samantha Wilson and Eleanor Grace Langley; mother of Adrienne-Marie Wilson and Allen Thomas Wilbur, Patricia Anderson Wilbur; mother of Eliza Ruth Langley-Wilbur Watson and Carl Richard Langley-Wilbur, Cynthia Jean Langley.
