Edward E. Betts, former professor

Reverend Edward E. Betts of West Chester, PA, age 71, passed away on Dec. 10, 2013. He was born in North Wildwood, N.J. Edward graduated from Middle Township High School in 1960. He received a B.A. from

Cheyney State College in 1964 and an M.A. in educational administration in 1968

from John Carroll University. He later received a Masters in Divinity from

Eastern Theological Seminary. He married the late Gail J. Betts in 1965 and they

lived together in Cleveland, Ohio, before relocating to West Chester in 1971,

and subsequently to Ocean City, N.J. in 1984. As an avid education advocate,

Edward was an English teacher in Cleveland, Ohio, an administrator for

Tredyffrin/Easttown School District in Pa. and later Egg Harbor Township School

District in N.J. He also worked as a part-time professor at Antioch and at Immaculata College. Edward was ordained as a minister in

1983. He was an active member of St. Paul's Baptist Church in West Chester,

later Macedonia Methodist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church in Ocean City. He was

also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He is survived by three daughters,

Dr. Elana Betts of Coatesville, Mrs. Diana Betts-Wilkerson of San Antonio, Texas

and Ms. Adrienne Betts of San Antonio, Texas; four granddaughters and siblings.

To honor Rev. Betts' request, services will be privately held. Uplifting Life
