Florence Daggett, 90, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away in her sleep, November 13, 2013. She was born in Youngstown, January 22, 1923 to David R. and Violet S. Jones. Florence was a graduate of East High School and Antioch College, and earned a Master's in Library Science from Western Reserve University.
She worked as a librarian for the New York Library, the American Museum of Natural History, the Housing Library in Cleveland, the Ohio State University Library, and as a civilian librarian attached to the United States Air Force in Bitburg, Germany. Upon her return from Germany, she was employed by the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. She met and married William Daggett in 1961 and the two were inseparable for the next 47 years until William's death in 2008.
Florence loved art and music, and played piano, violin, and trumpet. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir at Saint James Episcopal Church, Boardman. Florence celebrated her Welsh Heritage through her membership in the St. David's Society and participation in regional Gymanfa Ganu festivals. Since William's passing in 2008, she has resided in Overland Park, Kansas.
She is survived by her son, Stephen S. (Melissa) Daggett; and granddaughter, Elizabeth H. Daggett; both of Platte City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, and a brother. Family and friends may call at 10:00 a.m. on January 9, 2014 at St. James Episcopal Church, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be given in Mrs. Daggett's name to the Heart of America Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements were handled by the Cremation Society of Kansas City and Belmont Park Cemetery.
