Kenneth Lee Derstine, age 70, of Philadelphia, formerly of Souderton, passed away on January 26, 2019, after a short illness.

Born in Sellersville, Ken was the son of the late Claude and Elizabeth (Mack) Derstine. He graduated from Souderton Area High School Class of 1966. Ken was a graduate of West Chester University in 1972 with a degree in Education.

In 1977 he received his Master Degree in Special Education from Antioch College and a Computer Science degree in 1990. He spent 37 years with the Philadelphia School District and was nominated for Teacher of the Year in 1994. In his retirement he was very active in supporting the Philadelphia public school system.

He loved to travel and his travels took him to different parts of the world, including the Middle East, China, Vietnam/Thailand, France and Cuba.

Ken is survived by his siblings, Carol Sue Derstine of Brazil, Betty (Derstine) Hlavka and husband John of Murphy, NC, Sharon Derstine and husband Cam of Sequim, WA. and C. Dale Derstine and wife Marlene of Telford, PA. Also survived by a niece and two nephews. There were no services planned.
