Margaret W. Gant '41

Margaret “Margo” W. Gant (1918 - 2013). Margaret “Margo” Gant passed away on Oct. 24, 2013 peacefully at the age of 95 in her home in Tustin, CA. Margo was born on Long Island, where she and her sister and brother grew up, helping their Pop run a bowling alley. Margo graduated Antioch College in Ohio, where she met her husband-to-be, Charles “Chuck” Gant '42. They were married on Valentine's Day, 1941. After Chuck returned from Navy service in the Pacific, they set up home in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. In the 1950s, they moved across country to Southern California, eventually moving to Tustin. After Chuck retired from Ford Aeronutronic, Margo started working at the Tustin branch of the Orange County Library, going on to become a reference librarian and working for 25 years. After her retirement, Margo was a tireless volunteer for the Friends of the Tustin Library, working in the book room and organizing popular silent auctions for special art and collectible books. She continued her volunteer work until the summer of 2013. A lifelong bibliophile, her house was filled with books that she was researching. She was preceded in death by Charles and their daughter, Michelle. She is survived by son, Michael S. Gant and his wife, Kathryn; and by many co-workers, fellow volunteers and close neighbors. In accordance with Margo's wishes, no service will be held. A celebration of life is planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Friends of the Tustin Library or to the Braille Institute of Los Angeles.
