Nancy Y. Stone '48

Nancy Y. Stone, age 92, of Venice, FL died on Nov. 21, 2018. Nancy was born on Dec. 15, 1925 in Crawfordsville, IN, the eldest child of William Foster Young and Mary Emma (Engle).

She graduated from Antioch College and Western Michigan University. She married William Royal Stone in 1946. Nancy came to Venice in 1988 from Kalamazoo, MI when she retired as an associate professor Emeritus in the English Dept. at Western Michigan University.

She was the author of three children's novels based on Michigan history and a number of professional articles.She was a founder of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice. Nancy did volunteer work at the Venice Public Library, Garden Elementary School and at Village on the Isle, where she was a resident since 2010.

She had been a member of the board of the Triangle Inn Assoc., a member of the Society of Children's Authors and Illustrators, the Venice Area Democratic Party and the Historical Society of Venice.

Nancy is survived by a son, John Stone of Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter, Emily Stone of Missoula MT, four grandchildren, Erin, Billy, Jeremy and Christy, a brother, Bennett Young of Orchard Park, NY, a sister, Eva Bendix of Venice and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her husband and her sister, Mary Richardson.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Congregation on January 5, 2019. Memorial donations may be made to the Endowment Fund of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice.
