Obituary: Barbara Allen Goins, former Antioch instructor

Mrs. Barbara Allen Goins age 76, of Dayton, a lifelong educator, wife, mother, mentor and friend to many, passed away December 30, 2011. Barbara was born July 28, 1935 in Harlan, Kentucky to the late Willie and Annie Mae Allen. Barbara was the third of five sisters: Dorthea Baldwin, Pearl Crawford, Dora Ross and Panolia Lanier. She attended Rosenwald High School where she excelled academically. She obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Music Education at Kentucky State University and later received her Master's of Science in Education from Wright State University. Barbara began her teaching career at Rosenwald High School and later relocated to Dayton where she taught at Longfellow Elementary School. She served as a supervisor at Wright State University, an assistant principal at Loos Elementary School, supervisor of ESAA Title VII program, implemented effective teacher training, assistant principal at Cleveland Elementary, Cornell Heights Elementary and Fairview Middle. She, also, served as Principal at Fairview Middle and Meadowdale Elementary. Additionally, Barbara taught graduate classes at Antioch. She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church. Barbara leaves to mourn, her devoted husband and friend of nearly 60 years, Francis Goins; children, Jeffrey (Betty), Stanley, Sharon, Kevin (Deanna) and Karla Goins. She was a sister-in-law and aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 12 noon Thursday, January 5, 2012 at New Hope Lutheran Church, 2000 Catalpa Drive. Pastor Andre E. Keeley, Sr. officiating. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. Visitation 9 a.m. Thursday at the church until the time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. The Delta Omega Omega memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to the HOUSE OF WHEAT Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave.
