Obituary: Daniel W. Doxtator Jr. '55

Daniel W. Doxtator (1926 - 2012), resident of Santa Cruz. Dan, long time resident of Santa Cruz, died on Saturday, March 3, 2012 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease, he was 85. Dan was born in Irving, New York on August 19, 1926, where he grew up on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. He served in the Army toward the end of WWII and attended Antioch College in Yellow Spring, Ohio on the GI Bill. He graduated with a degree in finance. While in college he met and married Louise Proctor '53. They were married for over 50 years, until her death in 2003. Dan and Louise moved to California in the 1950's, first to the Los Angeles area and then to the San Francisco Bay Area where Dan worked for Lockheed for several years. Dan began his career in city government in the early 1960's, where he served as the Director of Finance for the City of Mountain View. He also worked for the Kenai Native Association in Alaska, the Navaho Community College in Arizona and the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Montana. Dan was an avid traveler and enjoyed hiking and exploring where ever his jobs took him. He also enjoyed woodworking and small boat building. He was active in the Democratic Party and the local United Way. He is survived by his sister, Delores Mohler of St. Louis, MO, his two children, George and Meg and two grandchildren. The family will be holding a private memorial service at a later date.
