Obituary: Lee Danielson '47

Ann Arbor, MI

Lee passed away at the age of 90 on Monday, November 28, 2011, under the loving care of Arbor Hospice. He was born on December 20, 1920, in Youngstown, OH, the son of Leroy and Mary Danielson. Raised in Detroit he attended Highland Park Junior College and later Antioch College. While there Lee was called to duty to serve in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps. Active duty found him in the Pacific arena as a forward observer at Iwo Jima. Later he served in Japan with the occupational forces. Lee returned to Antioch College to complete his degree, then to the University of Michigan for his Masters and PhD in Industrial Psychology. During this time he met and married his loving wife, Millie. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year. He joined the U of M Business School faculty in 1953, served as assistant to the dean1958-59, and achieved full professorship in 1964. He was held in high regard as a teacher, both in the classroom settings and in numerous seminars he conducted over the years. Lee retired from active faculty status in May 1991. During his life he was an active member of Rotary and First Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, and an usher for many years. Lee was a patron of the arts and had a passion for ballroom dancing and play reading. He loved to travel and attend U of M football games. His friends and family will miss his clever wit, his humor, and his unfailing interest in others. Family meant everything to Lee - loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Millie; three children, Michael (Blennie), Lisa and Chris (Carolyn); seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons. The family appreciates the compassionate, skilled care provided by Arbor Hospice. The memorial service is planned for Sunday, December 4 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1432 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor, MI. Memorial contributions can be made to Arbor Hospice.
