Michael Leo Kingston of Sandwich, husband of Ann Marie Kingston for 30 years, died Feb. 26, 2010, at Cape Cod Hospital.
Born in Boston, Mass., the son of Samuel Henry and Barbara Tracy Kingston, he grew up in Rockland, Mass., and graduated from Rockland H.S. He received a scholarship to attend Antioch College, where he earned degrees in philosophy and theology. A lifelong enthusiast of the literature of Henry Miller, he also taught a class on the writer while at Antioch.
In the mid-'70s Michael worked as a VISTA volunteer for the Wilkes-Barre housing authority in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He was a project manager for Patriot Builders in Harwich, and also co-owner of West Barnstable Builders with his brother Mark.
Michael was a man of many interests and talents. He loved to play the guitar, enjoyed reading about astronomy, history, geology, physics and many other subjects, maintained a large organic garden and orchard, and besides being responsible for many of the beautiful homes you see around Cape Cod, he also spent much of his free time creating and restoring beautiful furniture and other wooden objects.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Eric Trosko of Brooklyn, N.Y., Jesse Kingston of Wilton, N.H., Jude Kingston of New Bedford, Mass.; daughter Amber Kingston of Sandwich; granddaughters Willow, Anais, and Gwenyth Kingston. He is the brother of Mark Kingston, Chris Kingston (predeceased), Carol Jankowski, Nancy Kingston, Neil Kingston and Joseph Kingston, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers please give a donation to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
