Obituary: Virginia Goode '44

Virginia Louise Goode (Tickell) died at peace from complications of Alzheimer's Disease with family at her side on February 21, 2012, at Scandia Village-Good Samaritan, in Sister Bay, WI, where she had resided since 2004. Ginnie was born to Annie F. (Swift) Tickell and George W. Tickell, in Taunton, MA, on March 19, 1917. She attended Taunton High School, and then Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH. While in Antioch's work/study program she met and married Robert T. Goode on March 30, 1940, in New York City. They shared 70 years of marriage together before Bob's death in July, 2010. They had two children, Robert Kent Goode and Terry Michael Goode. Ginnie graduated from the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee in 1952 and then opened the Goode Studio, an interior design firm, with her friend and business partner, Harry Krueger. She designed homes and businesses throughout the mid-West over a thirty year period. Many of these were written up in the ""Milwaukee Journal"" and in other publications, including ""House & Garden."" Ginnie and Bob had many residences in their long lives, from Wisconsin to Massachusetts, and Florida to Grand Cayman. Ginnie designed, remodeled or decorated all of them! Her favorites were in Hubertus and Door County, Wisconsin, and on Grand Cayman Island. Ginnie loved parties and organized many over the years. Her theme parties were events that everyone looked forward to attending! Ginnie was the family genealogist, and a proud member of the Mayflower Society. She taught us all the importance of family and history. Ginnie was also an avid antique collector, with a special love for cranberry glass. Ginnie was preceded in death by her parents; and, her beloved brother, George Tickell. Survivors include her two sons, Kent (Jeanne Marie), Town of Erin, WI; Terry (Pamela), Baileys Harbor, WI; her grandson Paul C. Goode (Monique) Tyler, TX; her granddaughter, Mariah K. Goode (Sam Perlman), Baileys Harbor, WI; and her grandson, Michael T. Goode (Jolynn Parker), Syracuse, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Hope Tickell (San Francisco, ML); Janet Durham Gard (Fountain Hills, AZ); and former sisters-in-law Lorraine Goode (Sister Bay, WI); and Mary Goode (Milwaukee, WI). Ginnie had three great-grandsons Theo and Trey (sons of Mariah and Sam), and Dash (son of Michael and Jolynn). Alzheimer's deprived her from knowing them, but they each exhibit an aspect of her personality. Her wit her devilishness her wisdom! Ginnie had many friends in her long life, too many to name, but Bill and Sharon Treul, Don Gocella, and Susan and Dennis Wink deserve special mention. They were all special to Ginnie and they all loved and cherished her. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Scandia Village who helped Ginnie during the last eight years of her life. There will be a celebration of Ginnie's life at Scandia Village in the late spring. Contributions in Ginnie's memory can be made to Scandia Village-Good Samaritan, 10560 Applewood Road, Sister Bay, WI 54234. These funds will go to Scandia Village's building fund to help expand and improve this extraordinary facility. Good bye, Mother. We shall all miss you and always remember your humor, zest for life and love of family
