Wilma R. Fessenden, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. She was born April 12, 1934, in Batavia, the daughter of Alex and Melissa Rankin. She was a 1955 graduate of Antioch College with a degree in psychology and received her master's degree in library science from Syracuse University in 1971.
Mrs. Fessenden worked at the Tully Free Library from 1963 to 1969, and was the librarian at Tully Elementary School from 1969 until 1992. After retiring, she spent summers in Kensington, N.H., at Shaw's Hill Farm with her daughter Kathryn Fessenden Tuthill.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Patrick Fessenden; three daughters, Muffin McAfee of Sparks, Md., Lynne Fessenden of Eugene, Ore., and Kathryn Fessenden of Kensington; four grandsons; one sister, Francis Horr of Mt. Morris; and one brother, Malcolm Rankin of Bradford, Penn.
