Sharon Gilmore ‘86

Sharon Bahl Rogge Gilmore of Oakwood, Bellbrook, and recently Walnut Creek Nursing Center, born Aug. 13, 1940 to the late Charlotte and Herbert C. Bahl, Jr., died from complications of Alzheimer's disease on February 24, 2018.

She is survived by her sister, Leslie Luhn; sons, Christopher Gilmore (Clair), Adam Gilmore (Xiao-Ping); daughters Hope McGinnis (Joey), and Rachel Smith ; and grandchildren, Clara and Owen Smith, and Elke McGinnis.

Sharon was a mom first, but realized a second career after earning her degree in Psychology from Antioch in Yellow Springs and becoming a special education teacher at Bellbrook Junior High. She spent her life helping others.

She volunteered to answer calls on the suicide hotline; she worked weekends for at-risk youth at Daybreak; and she tutored and advocated for children better served in non-traditional education settings. She was a published poet and a true free-spirit, who loved music, cooking and baking, speaking her mind, and spending time with her family.

The family would like to sincerely thank the caring staff at Walnut Creek and Hospice of Dayton for their comfort and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Dayton or the Alzheimer's Association in hopes of a cure to this terrible disease.
