Susan Joan Smith died October 12, 2013, in Los Angeles at age 71. She was an extraordinarily respected theatre/film/TV talent agent/manager of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and formerly New York City. Susan had her own agency, and during her entire 44-year career, her clients received more Oscars, Tonys, Emmys and Golden Globes than any other independent talent representative. She was famous for her taste and for launching and maintaining numerous distinguished careers. Susan was also widely recognized for qualities increasingly rare in her industry–total honesty and an unwavering devotion to talent over profit. Survived by brother Roger Smith, sister-in-law Terry Steiner and beloved niece Daisy, and her loving companion Myke Zykoff. But it is the amazing roster of friends, colleagues and–most of all–her beloved clients who are her true survivors. This week the lights of the Shubert theatres will be dimmed in Susan's honor, a rare but fitting tribute to a talent representative who loved actors. Memorial services in New York City and Los Angeles to be announced.
