William Walsh ’76

  William Charles Walsh, born October 18, 1948, passed away  unexpectedly but peacefully at his home in Washington, DC, on September 22, 2018.

  He is survived by his sister, Kathleen McGrath and her husband Glenn of Hebron, CT and his brother, John and wife, Kate Walsh of Fairfax, VA. Bill was also a loving uncle to four nieces and nephews, Glenn, Erin, Ian and Blair as well as four great-nieces and nephews, each of whom was his favorite. Bill was born in Bronx, NY to the late Jack and Beatrice Walsh and grew up in King of Prussia, PA.

   He graduated Maxima Cum laude from Lasalle College and received his law degree from Antioch College in 1976. Bill had been a resident of the District of Columbia for over 45 years. 

   Bill was a preeminent international human rights attorney as well as one of the foremost experts in FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) litigation.

   He was a member of the U.S. State Department Advisory Working Group on Religious Freedom, as well as Vice Chair, Policy, on the Board of Directors of the Institute for Religion and Public Policy, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, inter-religious organization. 

  There will be no formal funeral services, however, a celebration of Bill's life will be held for family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the American Heart Association 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231.
