This Antioch College Corporation Privacy Policy was last updated and became effective on April 19, 2013.

This website is operated by Antioch College Corporation (“Antioch” or “we”, “us”, or “our”).  This Privacy Policy applies to all of the websites operated by Antioch unless a different policy is provided on a particular site, in which case such different policy shall control.  This Privacy Policy is subject to change, so you are encouraged to revisit and review this Privacy Policy from time to time.  Antioch reserves the right to alter, modify, update, add to, subtract from or otherwise change this Privacy Policy at any time for any reason or no reason at all.  Antioch will post any changes here, and any changes will become effective immediately upon being posted unless otherwise indicated in the posted Privacy Policy.

Notice to California Residents / Your California Privacy Rights:

California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits California residents who have supplied personally identifiable information, as defined in the statute, to the site to request and obtain certain information regarding our disclosure, if any, of personally identifiable information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes (namely, the categories of personally identifiable information shared and the names and addresses of all third parties that received personally identifiable information from this site for their direct marketing purposes) during the immediately prior calendar year.  To make such a request (limit one request per year), please send an e-mail to communications[at]antiochcollege[dot]org, with “California Privacy Rights” as the subject line.  You must include your full name, e-mail address, and postal address in your message.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully.  Your use of this website indicates that you have read and accepted Antioch’s privacy practices, as described in this Privacy Policy.  In addition, please review the applicable Terms of Use, which govern your use of each Antioch website.

The Antioch websites are operated in the United States.  If you are located in the European Union, Canada or elsewhere outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to us will be collected within the United States.  By using our websites, participating in any of our services and/or providing Antioch with your information, you consent to this transfer.

Information That Antioch Collects: 

Antioch collects the following information:

  1. Personally identifiable information is information that identifies you or could reasonably be used to identify you personally.  Providing personally identifiable information is voluntary.  You may, however, not be able to use the full functionality of the applicable website if you do not provide certain information.  Antioch may collect personally identifiable information that you provide during your use of the website, including, without limitation, your name, home phone number, mobile phone number physical address, email address, company, title, educational history, gender, race and ethnicity.  Other examples of personally-identifiable information that may be collected (depending on the applicable Antioch website) are:
    • information for using our online giving and payment options or otherwise managing an Antioch user account, including your name and contact information.  We, and certain third parties acting on our behalf, use your credit card information to process your monetary contributions and merchandise payments. This information will be processed and stored within payment card industry standards.  Any and all payments processed through a third party on our behalf is subject to the third party’s applicable privacy policy and terms of use.
    • information you provide when you sign up for any services (e.g., Antioch user forums, alumni board nominations, alumni award nominations, marketing offers, on-line admission services, faculty orders, and e-newsletters, including, but not limited to, the Independent) offered on the website; and
    • information collected when you contact us (requesting information, providing feedback, questions, etc.) or collected via offline methods (e.g., telephone).
  2. Antioch Website Cookies and Google Analytics:  We may use cookies, but only to store session information, to track usage patterns on the website or to analyze user activity on the site (without tying that information to personally identifiable information, except that your submissions and postings in the user forums will be stored and available to Antioch and other users and may include your on-screen identification).  Cookies are text files used to identify users and possibly to prepare customized web pages for the user.  You may configure your browser to reject cookies but, if you do so, you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.  In addition, we may use Google Analytics to obtain information related to your use of the site.  The information obtained and analyzed through Google Analytics is collected aggregately, meaning that the information and the analysis thereof do not refer to any particular user or account.  We may use this information to enhance the operations of the site for improved performance and a more enjoyable user experience.
  3. Web Server Log Information:  Antioch collects non-personally identifiable web log information regarding visitors to its website and each visitor’s activity on the website.  This information includes, but is not limited to your IP address, the time and date of your visit(s), the pages you visit, the frequency of your visits and the length of stay on each page, your browser type, and information that identifies any linking or referral web page visited prior and /or subsequent to visiting our website.

The Antioch websites are not directed at children and Antioch does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under thirteen (13) years of age unless the collection complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). If you are under thirteen (13) years of age, do not send any information about yourself to Antioch.  If Antioch discovers that a child under the age of 13 has provided Antioch with personally identifiable information not in compliance with COPPA, Antioch will use commercially reasonable efforts to delete that child’s personally identifiable information from its system.

You may have the opportunity to provide us with the personally identifiable information of a friend or another individual, including, but not limited to, through the alumni board nominations and alumni award nominations sites (or a friend of yours may provide Antioch personally identifiable information about you). Any personally identifiable information that you supply to Antioch for those activities will not be retained, or used, for other purposes unless otherwise disclosed to you at the time the information is collected.

How Antioch Uses Your Information:

We will use personally identifiable information collected from you for the purpose disclosed at the time the information is collected (e.g., we will collect credit card information to process a contribution or payment and we will collect contact information to use specifically in connection with the purposes stated at the time of collection). We will use personally identifiable information to contact you:

  • to provide you with requested purchases, information, services or content;
  • to process a contribution or payment by you;
  • to allow you to use the services (including, but not limited to, Antioch user forums, alumni board nominations, alumni award nominations, marketing offers, on-line admission services, faculty orders, and e-newsletters, including, but not limited to, the Independent) offered on the website;
  • to enforce the Terms of Use of the Antioch website and to address any problems or concerns we have regarding your use of this website; or
  • to notify you of changes to this Privacy Policy, our Terms of Use or other policies or terms that affect you and your use of our websites.

We may share your personally identifiable information with certain third parties, including, but not limited to, our providers (to the extent necessary to provide our services) and third party marketers, for legal compliance purposes, as described in the “Assignability” section below, to a third party for the purpose of creating an Antioch directory, or if you give us your consent.  For purposes of the preceding sentence, “legal compliance purposes” includes, without limitation, compliance with laws, cooperation with any governmental investigation and disclosure whenever Antioch believes disclosure is necessary to limit its legal liability or to protect or enforce the rights, interests, or safety of the website, our users or any third party. If you elect to receive communications from a third party, your information will be subject to the third party’s privacy policy and not this Privacy Policy. If you later decide that you do not want that third party to use your information, you will need to contact the third party directly.

Antioch may use non-personally identifiable information for many reasons, such as system administration, marketing analysis, to audit use of our website and to report aggregate information to our business partners. Antioch may associate your IP address or other non-personally identifiable information with personally identifiable information that you provide, but Antioch will use this aggregated information solely for Antioch’s internal business purposes, subject to this Privacy Policy as it pertains to personally identifiable information.  Antioch may disclose aggregated non-personally identifiable information to third parties.

Antioch may share personally identifiable information and non-personally identifiable information with entities that perform functions on behalf of Antioch.  For example, and without limitation, Antioch may share your information with entities that host an Antioch website (or portions thereof), send communications on our behalf, analyze data, and provide customer service.  These third parties may have access to your information from Antioch, including personally identifiable information, only to the extent it is necessary to perform their duties and functions, and subject to this Privacy Policy.  You may, however, also be required to provide your personally identifiable information to certain third parties that host or process certain portions of Antioch programs on behalf of or in connection with Antioch (such as a third party payment processor).  Antioch assumes no responsibility for such third parties’ privacy practices, and you agree that Antioch will have no liability for such third parties’ privacy practices. I understand that I am waiving rights with respect to claims that are at this time unknown or unsuspected, and in accordance with such waiver, I acknowledge that I have read and understand, and hereby expressly waive, the benefits of Section 1542 of the Civil Code of California, and any similar law of any State, Country or territory, which provides as follows: “A general release does not extend to claims which the creditor does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release, which if known by him or her must have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor.”

Your Choices Regarding Your Personally Identifiable Information:

You have the ability at any time to access your personally identifiable information collected by Antioch by contacting us at the email or physical addresses provided in the “Contacting Antioch” section below. You should be aware that it is not always possible to completely remove or delete all of your information from our databases without some residual data because of backups and other reasons.

Please also keep in mind that any opt-out choices you make will not apply in situations where: (a) you make a specific request for information from us, or (b) Antioch uses your personally identifiable information for certain operational and/or fulfillment purposes (e.g. to complete transactions requested by you, or to send you communications either about any user account of yours or about features of our websites, including any future changes to this Privacy Policy, the applicable Terms of Use, or any other policy or terms that affect you and your use of our website).

Many of these links take you to websites and online content that are not operated by Antioch and are beyond Antioch’s control, including, but not limited to, sites operated by Google and/or third party payment processors. If you “click” on these links, you will be taken to a third party website. Antioch has no control over and is not responsible for the content of any third party sites to which you link.  In addition, these other websites have their own privacy policies and practices that may differ from Antioch’s, and we encourage you to review the privacy policies of any other website you visit.

Security:

We have put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures as required by law and as we deem reasonable to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security, and correctly use the information we collect online. However, we cannot guarantee the security of any information that is disclosed online. We make no warranty regarding the security of any information you transmit to us via this site and you do so at your own risk.

Assignability; Governing Law:

Antioch reserves the right to disclose, share, assign and/or otherwise transfer user information, including without limitation personally identifiable information, in connection with a merger, acquisition, consolidation, the sale of substantially all of its assets, or any other corporate change or restructuring, whatever form it may take.  You further agree that this Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio.  Any dispute under or related to this Privacy Policy shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts in Greene County, Ohio.
