Science Saturdays Program for Students Ages Five to 18

Antioch College will host Science Saturdays this winter and spring providing free, on-campus experiential demonstrations and exercises for children ages five to 18. Each program is led by Joseph Lennox, visiting professor of organic chemistry, and a team of Antioch College students. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in activities covering Food Chemistry, Biomedical Science, Forensic Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science.

Younger students attending Science Saturdays are scheduled in single-gender groups to promote a comfortable environment that fosters inquiry and participation. Sixteen- to 18-year-olds will participate in co-ed sessions.

  1. age of attendee,
  2. whether attending Female-ID section (ages 5-15), the Male-ID section (ages 5-15), or the Co-Ed section (ages 16-18) morning or afternoon.

Evidence collected from the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) reveals that female students under age 16 will have the best possible experience when grouped together with other females, thus we have planned “female identified” (Female-ID) and “male identified” (Male-ID) sections. Trans-, mixed- and non-binary-gender students are invited to attend the section they identify with most.

So we may accommodate as many students as possible, attendees are invited to register for only one of the winter/spring 2018 Science Saturdays.

Once registered via email a representative from AESOP will get back to you to confirm your Science Saturday reservation. If you need to cancel a reservation, we kindly ask for a 1-2 day notice.
