Assistant Professor of Cooperative Education Luisa Bieri was recently featured in a Dayton Daily News print edition article detailing distance-learning innovations she’s made to her Antioch Community Action course. Bieri has designed Co-op coursework engaging art as social practice, community action research, and place-based learning. Her primary focus areas within Co-op include the arts and therapeutic practices as well as opportunities in Latin America. Performance courses Bieri offers always include socially engaged art.

A project-based course, students in Antioch Community Action are encouraged to build community and learn about effective organizing. In the article, Bieri tells the writer, “We spend a lot of our time talking about how we can all come together across all our differences. We learn about different races, genders, classes and experiences.”

Bieri’s course and the projects her students developed exemplify Antioch College’s educational landmarks — Own Your Education, Learn Experientially, and Act for Justice.

Read more about the projects students pursued while distance learning and about Bieri’s history with Antioch College in the ePaper edition of the Dayton Daily News.
